Ah.. never mind, the manual says that even after entering an offset distance ( which ignores the sign ) , you have to click in the direction of the offset. RTFM

Oooh! One I can actually help with!  A modifier key toggle between Freehand Mode, Intersection Mode, and Middle/End Mode would speed things up.Command 1, 2, 3 and 4 does the trick!al

following up:  a question. In the upper right hand portion of the tool bar, there is a Zoom All button, a Plus and Minus button, an Escape button, and a microscopic popup menu that contains nothing.  What is it for?
