Dumb me. I capitalized 'From' and that screwed it up. Also I learned that entering the 'New->' is not necessary, all it needs is 'Image from Selection'. --and Cmd-B is fine, it's not associated with any other hot keys.

I recently upgraded to Sierra and didn't know the OS had that function. Have you tried it with GC? After consulting the Apple website for the correct formatting of the Menu item, I assigned Cmd-B to 'New->Image From Selection'.
