Would it be possible to create a View > Cross hairs option?

I'm imagining an option where four lines emanate from the cursor and extend out to the ruler guides. This would assist in aligning the cursor with other objects on the screen, or with points on the ruler.

Thorsten, how to I measure a second or third polygon? After I complete the first polygon, any additional clicks just cause beeps. What does the Enable Virtual Lines command in the View menu do? I can't find any mention in the User's Manual.
