crop for photo service

Hello, I am cropping a quantity of photos to 4 x 6 using "crop for photo service" function. My images are Tiffs and the resolution is 300 ppi. I want to save the cropped image as a jpeg, and have selected so in dialogue box, as well as keep the resolution at 300 ppi. When I do crop, the images remain as Tiffs and the resolution changes to 72 ppi. I have searched the manual and looked in all the preference dialogues to see if something is either not checked or checked when it should not be. How can I get the "crop for photo service" to save as jpeg from tiff and keep my resolution at 300 ? Thanks in advance, Loretta Shigo
