[Solved] terrible jpg compression results

Post by ianstudio »

Hello,
am finally taking time to ask about this.
I have used GC for ages, mainly to convert hard to open files and to batch resize files and convert them to other formats, usually to tif or psd for further work.
HOWEVER.. the jpg compression using the batch tool is useless which forces me to use other tools to generate jpg's for websites.
GC's jpg compression yields awful results.. extremely pixellated, when much simpler tools can generate muuuuch better jpg's.. why is that ?

That always puzzled me.

Hi,
that is really simple.
Please check your JPEG save as settings.
Convert and modify: Click onto Optioon
Browser: Toolitem Batch&Format click onto Options for Format

What is selected?

Please set the quality to 80 or more.

I suggest to try checking the quality with a single file.

Just open an image with GraphicConverter.
Select File/Save as…
Select JPEG as format
Click onto option
Adjust the quality and other settings and view the result.

Thanks, but you imagine I know all this ;0)
What I'm saying is I get terrible results using similar compression settings compared to other much simpler tools such as:
https://www.hugyapps.com/compress/en/
https://www.batchphoto.com
https://overmacs.com/?p=photomill

and when I mean terrible I really mean terrible, major jpg artefacts.. as in totally unusable professionally for web images purposes (my job).

PS: Should I send you comparative samples so you really get the point ?

Hi,

different software products may use different quality scales due the different libraries.

I use the official JPEG6 library from the JPEG group.

Please e-mail some samples zipped to lemke@lemkesoft.de
