Browers Not Refreshing Automatically after Edit

Post by GwentLarry »

This is a problem I've had on and off for some time.

I normally access images from the brower, double clicking on an image to open it for editing and then saving when finished.

It used to be that the image icon in the browser refreshed automatically after the edited image closed - now it doesn't.

I can manually get the icons to refresh with alt-F5.

Not a big problem but it's real irritation.

Thanks,

Hi,
where are the files located? A local disk or a network drive?
Do you use the current 10.4.3? Is any antivirus software installed?

Files are on an external HDD connected by Firewire to my early 2008 iMac running OS 10.11.6

GC 10.4.3

No anti-virus software installed - it's a Mac :-)

Hi,
can you recheck with your system disk? Just copy a folder of images to the system disk and change the content.
What happens now?

Good Morning Thorsten,

That's it!

If the images folder is on the sytem disk, the browser thumbnails update automatically.

So, this seems to be a system issue with your old FireWire disk. I can't reproduce this here with my USB2/3 drives.
The change notification is normally send by the Apple Filemanager to the app.

Thanks, Thorsten,

My iMac has USB2 ports and the external HDD has a USB2 port so it seems I have an easy solution ....

Not such an easy solution after all ... :-(

I have now connected my external Images HDD to the iMac by USB2. I've also run Disk Utility First Aid, just in case changing the connection caused any problems.

The problem remains ...

Good Morning Thorsten,

Mac OS 10.11.6

I did wonder if there might be a formating fault with the HDD so I erased, reformated and restored the files from backup. Unfortunately, the problem remains.

Then it occured to me to test the problem with a 2nd external HDD drive also now connected by USB 2.0 to the iMac. No problem - edited images update automatically.

So, it seems this issue is specific to the this particular external HDD which is an Iomaga 1 Tb drive.

So, not your problem anymore but that you - you've ay least helped me isolate the problem.
