[Solved] Rectangle selection problem

Since yesterday, when I make a selection with the rectangular selection tool the selection comes with a 2:1 width to height constraint. If I hold down the shift key it changes to 1:2.
It never used to do this - I was able to make a selection of any shape I wanted.
The elliptical alternative is unconstrained.
I can resize the selection with the handles without constraint.
I cannot find anywhere in the preferences that enables me to remove this constraint.
How to fix it?
John.

Sorry! But the answer was quite hard for me to find in the Help manual.

There are four "bars" at the bottom of the tool palette. The one at the very bottom enables you to select one of quite a number of aspect ratios for the square marquee selection tool; somehow I had inadvertently change it from "None" to 2:1 (this appears to have a shortcut of option-4, so maybe this is how it got changed).

"None" has a shortcut of option-something that looks a bit like zero but not quite. Suggestions?

You will realize that I am not a power user of GC, although I have been using it for over twenty years :-)

John.

It's Option-Escape [⌥ - ⎋]

Thank you. My old keyboard just has "esc" on that key.

But now I know, the significance of the symbol is clear!
