[Solved] Memory leak

Post by ramblingjohn »

If I leave GC open for a day or two with a folder of images in a browser the memory usage climbs steadily (GC 10.5.3, MacOS 10.13.2, but also with earlier versions); even with a folder of less than 100 MB the usage climbs to over 20 GB after a day or two. The workaround is to quit (or if necessary force-quit) GC and reopen it. Is there another fix?

Please go to the prefs Browser/Cache and uncheck the cache in memory. What happens now?

Memory usage still rises to 25 GB after two days. Setting the Memory usage for thumbnail generation to 1GB does not seem to have helped. The only checkbox under Browser/Cache is Save cached thumbnails to disk; unchecking this box has made no difference. A screenshot of the preferences and Activity monitor is at https://www.dropbox.com/s/9mzbshef4pu4h ... 9.png?dl=0

Update - quitting and restarting GC after changing the cache preferences seems to have fixed the memory problem. Thanks for the help.
