Alpha Channels

Post by John Hill »

I seem to be having problems understanding the alpha channel, and what it is useful for. I've looked at the user manual and so far as I can see I don't really need it in my rather amateur of GC, which in any case is mainly with jpg files. So I'd like to be able to turn if off. But how?

The nearest I can get in the Manual is "If you do not like the chessboard pattern, you can disable the Alpha Channel / Display with mask option in the Preferences under General / Display Content. The normal picture will then be displayed instead of the chessboard pattern." But if I go to preferences/General/Display Content I don't see this option. I do see a drop down menu for Alpha Channel but this does not include this option.
This is what I do see:
Aplha Channel query.jpg

Is there any way in which I can I can disable the alpha channel facility?

I have GC11, Mojave fully up to date, on an iMac

John.

Hi,

just select Picture/Alpha Channel/Remove to remove it.
