[Solved] How do the various scaling factors work?

Post by RoamingBob »

I can't seem to get the knack of using the Scale selection drop down (for example trying to set it to 1/4 in = 1 ft).
Then there is the Scale of Layer 1023 (which is where the page/paper size gets loaded)? How does that work.
Then there are the scale options for alternate units.

Scaling factors!!!

Post by RoamingBob »

I am still struggling with doing scale drawings.

I want to do a drawing so that 1 inch = 1 foot.

Alternatively, I can do the whole thing at 1:1. BUT then how do I get it to print at an accurate scaling of 1 inch = 1 foot.

I see where you can ask for a print of the document to be shrunk to one sheet, but what scaling is that going to get?

I had hoped that CADintosh would allow such accurate scale drawings. I'm getting the hang of other parts, but this aspect continues to frustrate me.

I've set the panel top to 1 inch = 1 foot. And I've tried the 1" setting (whatever that means). None of this ends up making sense. Either things are huge relative to the landscape 8-1/2 X 11 sheet, or they are just crazy small.

There is no real guidance in the help PDF.

Scaling Factors

Post by RoamingBob »

Thorsten,
Here is an example drawing, done at 1:1 scale. There is a landscape US Letter page on layer 1023.

I'd like to print this at a scale where 1 inch in the printed page corresponds to 1 foot.

Thanks,

- Bob

Scaling is a bit complex but very important for technical drawings.

1. Select the correct unit before your start with a new drawing under Options/Drawing

2. Select the correct scale in the scale menu for the elements

3. Now make the construction

You define the print area normally with File/Area/Select Area with Page.

Or select "Print complete drawing onto one page.

We added now a new dialog upon creation of a new drawing.

The user can now set the default unit and matching scale. We hope that this avoids the reported problems.
