Adjust EXIF date/time to originals in a batch

Post by Yogie »

Hi Thorsten, before I start shooting photos I usually take a photo from the screen of my GPS device to have the exact current time and being able to geotag accordingly to my PGX files the device is logging. Being back home I import my photos into Aperture (up to now) and Aperture offers an easy way to align the time of the photo down to a second and not only timezone wise (engl. Screenshot  / ger. Screenshot ). My workflow can be found here in at my (engl ./ger .) blog. Starting from 2013 I will make usage of Lightroom instead of Aperture and LR doesn't have such an easy and nice feature as it only allows adjustments in hours. So I wonder if GC can make adjustments to time to a batch of photos easily. I found several options in GC which are showing that manipulations to the EXIF date/time fields can be made but I'm still having the feeling that it could be improved and I didn't figure out if they can be used to a set of photos instead of applying it only to one photo. Can you please give an advice how to handle an adjustment to the EXIF timestamp to multiple images having a single image that holds the difference between the cameras timestamp and showing the actual time? Many thanks in advance.CheersJoerg

Hello Joerg, just make a selection and use the shift exif time stamp. That will shift each selected image.Thorsten On 31.12.2012, at 11:47, "Yogie" <anamcara@yogie.de> wrote:   Hi Thorsten, before I start shooting photos I usually take a photo from the screen of my GPS device to have the exact current time and being able to geotag accordingly to my PGX files the device is logging. Thank you Thorsten, I have tried to follow you recommendation but unfortunately it the way is very confusing and I'm not able to see the time difference and to adjust to the appropriate difference. As you can see in my (Link to Screenshot) next to the adjustment box I have my photo with the GPS screen and marked all the photos of the same day. At the right I do have some EXIF displayed of some photos that are marked. So I'm not able to read and calculate the real difference in one step. I fist have to calculate the image time difference and then mark all images and adjust the time. To many steps and the need of a notation of the calculated time difference. Ok this is how it seems to work but it look like not to be very user-friendly :-) Cheers Joerg      On Mon, 31 Dec 2012 12:40:09 +0100, Thorsten Lemke wrote:

Hello Joerg, you have to look only at the start image and the start of your gps log file to get the delta. That is the normal basic way.Thorsten On 01.01.2013, at 14:02, Joerg Knoerchen <anamcara@yogie.de> wrote: Thank you Thorsten,I have tried to follow you recommendation but unfortunately it the way is very confusing and I'm not able to see the time difference and to adjust to the appropriate difference. As you can see in my (Link to Screenshot) next to the adjustment box I have my photo with the GPS screen and marked all the photos of the same day. The picture of your GPS says 14:58:13 Let's say that picture file's exif time is 14:59:05 The difference between the two is 52 sec You just need to shift the EXIF file date to -52sec Select all images in the browser. Control click on any one Select Actions->Metadata Exif-> Shift Exif Time stamp Set it to -52 seconds or whatever applies to your actual situation. Thorsten and Marino,I know but all needs multiple steps and brain calculation (not that I can not handle it) but it is not user-friendly at the end and I thought it could be improved to be...CheersJoergAm 01.01.2013 um 20:56 schrieb Marino Pascal <weblists@locationscout.com>:   The picture of your GPS says 14:58:13 Let's say that picture file's exif time is 14:59:05 The difference between the two is 52 sec You just need to shift the EXIF file date to -52sec Select all images in the browser.
