Save as, image gets darker

Post by wjrieken »

Hello, When I save an image with deep colors in TIFF format to a new file, it sometimes gets a bit darker. I think it has something to do with color profiles. How do I prevent this? Which combinations of settings can I savely use? GraphicConverter 8.7.1 (1273) Mac OS X 10.6.8 regards, Willeke

Hello Willeke, did you maybe check: Merge color profile in the save as dialog? That should be off by default - it is only for special purposes.Thorsten On 07.07.2013, at 11:44, "wjrieken" <willeke2007@gmail.com> wrote:   Hello, When I save an image with deep colors in TIFF format to a new file, it sometimes gets a bit darker. Hello, No, I didn't touch that setting. Things go wrong if the image doesn't have a color profile. Save as TIFF and copy both make the image darker. GraphicConverter 8.6 is ok. Here's what I do: scan a photo from a glass negative in 48-bit color open in GraphicConverter split channels into new window pick the best one, this 16-bit grayscale image doesn't have a color profile check histogram, red is 75.15% save as TIFF close, open again check histogram, red is 70.77% save as another TIFF file close, open again check histogram, red is 66.09% regards, Willeke

yes I DO NOTICE a darkening upon save in 'some' images I have doen.I am taking a guess it is something in the image's 'metadata' and I also see this in .... government agency images or other than hobbyist things...Metadata also enables ...image changes... to the desire of any concerned in my time here; what may happen is the image is 'saying' the color and any other variables are not spot on.... It does not like the file type change I know from doing this  - the METADATA is a code inside the image; rather it commands all this...
