I'm opening a cleat photo in GC,changing its name only,, saving, then putting on a page to be ftp's online. As soon as it is put on the page, the thing is a mess. This is something new after years of doing this so I haven't been able to figure out why.. Thanks for your help!! Marie Alfred J Treder wrote: > We no longer see the windows that y

I don't know what a "cleat photo" would be, but I assume it is simply a photo file. Do you open it to see how it looks, or doesn't that matter? If it doesn't matter, then changing its name can be done in Finder without ever invoking GC, and the file contents will remain unchanged, with ONLY the name changed. That's always the safest way to do that. When you say "putting on a page", do you mean copying the file and pasting it somewhere (another open graphic file?), or uploading the file to the web someplace, or moving it to another folder for later FTP? Moving or copying to another folder is easily done in Finder as well. What I do is have two Finder windows open, one beside the other, with one showing the From folder and the other showing the To folder. Then I highlight one or many files in the From folder, left click and hold the highlighted file(s), then drag them over to the To folder. If I want another copy (not just Move) in the To folder, I hold down the Alt/Option key on the keyboard while dragging, and then it takes a little longer while Finder makes the copies and puts them in the To folder. It may be a good idea to upgrade. But don't throw away the old if you are working at high magnification (and have OS 10.6 or earlier). The new is much less pixel accurate for close work. Though it may be ok with later OS? Best, T. -- Tony Jackson, Devon, UK.

Attachments :Image Size.jpgMaybe it would help to send us the original file as an attachment. David Note: if you use Apple Mail, make sure the attachment is sent in the "Actual Size" (see dialogue box in lower right corner).

Re: pixelation on a mac

Post by Marie Harvey »

I maintain genealofy  websites and some parts of it have photos. People send them to me in e-mails and I open, change name, save and place on the page which is then uploaded to the main site.  As soon as I save the original photos I check it  before putting on the page so that's when I see how it will look on the page. I normally do nothing to it other than that. Not complicated until now.  All saved as jpg and nothing else done. Hope this explains what I am doing. Marie Alfred J Treder August 12, 2013 9:44 AM Marie,If the problem is not in the Save As operation, it would be in what you do with the file when it is open. The most obvious problem would be in changing picture size under the Picture menu. You haven't said what you do with the file.BTW, the newest versions of GC have very nice interfaces, and most of us are using them. We no longer see the windows that you see, so our advice may seem incomprehensible. It may be a good idea to upgrade. Al“ I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. If I want another copy (not just Move) in the To folder, I hold down the Alt/Option key on the keyboard while dragging, and then it takes a little longer while Finder makes the copies and puts them in the To folder.Al“ Striving for excellence motivates you; striving for perfection is demoralizing.”-- Harriet BraikerOn Aug 12, 2013, at 7:53 AM, Marie Harvey <ladyhrvy@sbcglobal.net> wrote:I'm opening a cleat photo in GC,changing its name only,, saving, then putting on a page to be ftp's online. Attachments :Hi,I suggest the following to find a solution:e-mail the source file, e-mail your saved file and e-mail an exact description what you want to do.Thorsten I maintain genealofy  websites and some parts of it have photos. Re: pixelation on a mac

Post by Alan Dow »

Marie, It seems to me this is possibly not a GC issue at all, particularly if you are using older versions of Mac and/or GC. Older versions of Mac OS save the file as a 'forked file' having two 'forks'. the 'data' fork fo the file contains the jpeg image. the 'resource' fork contains system information about the file, and can include a system-generated low-resolution icon of the original image. It is possible the server you are uploading to could be confused by the forked file structure, and displaying the icon instead of the full image. The solution would be to make sure the resource fork is removed from files before uploading. hth ..AD ------------------------- At 21:02 +0200 2013-08-12, Thorsten Lemke wrote: >Hi, > >I suggest the following to find a solution: >e-mail the source file, e-mail your saved file and e-mail an exact >description what you want to do. > >Thorsten > > >>I maintain genealofy websites and some parts of it have photos. >>People send them to me in e-mails and I open, change name, save and >>place on the page which is then uploaded to the main site.
