Pasting an image into GC8?

Hi, brand new to this product and already confused:  Rather than open a file with my image in it I was hoping to just paste an image in from another program and convert it (to a thumbnail I need).  None of the Paste or Cut functions seem to work the way I need -- any suggestions? Bob
