Strange gray bar after scaling pic

Post by JamesInSanDiego »

I came across a strange result today while trying to scale/resize a screenshot and then saving .png pic of it. I also captured the Apple Safari Icon from the Get Info window. I didn’t resize the Icon file but had saved it as a .jpg file first. After resizing, each pic displayed a dark gray bar covering a large portion of the right side of the pic. I found the I could grab the pic and pull it to the left to display the hidden portion of the graphic.

I can only attach 2 of 4 files, the screenshot pics. I took the original saved Safari .jpg and the original screenshot into Preview and both resized with no problems.

I am using GraphicConverter 10.6.2 (3115) on my MacBook Pro now using macOS Mohave version 10.14 Beta (18A347e). Any ideas? Any other info needed?

Which options did you select in the scale dialog? Can you reproduce?

This morning I did a careful study of the gray bar problem and discovered that Scaling had nothing to do with it. If I take a partial (⌘-⇧-4) or full screen shot (⌘-⇧-3) and save it to disk or if I take either the partial or full screenshot and copy to clipboard, then when creating the file by opening or from clipboard in GraphicConverter I always get the gray bar on the right edge of the graphic. When creating the file by opening or from clipboard in Preview, there is no gray bar. The file I was using yesterday was larger than the width of my screen so I never noticed the gray bar until after Scaling because it was off the right edge of my screen.

I have reproduced this same issue 3 times this morning. The bar appears when creating the file and not when scaling the graphic as I originally thought yesterday. I have attached both GraphicConverter and Preview pics today.

I checked that more deeply.
Looks like a bug in the Apple NSRulerView class on Mojave BETA.

Workaround:
Just uncheck the display of the rulers.

I am currently downloading the newest Mojave beta. I will install it and retest GraphicConverter. I will post my results here and if the issue remains, I will send in a bug report with Feedback Assistant to Apple as well as posting here.

Yes, the gray bar is still there with the new Mohave beta. I will send in a report to Apple. Thanks.

Strange gray bar still there after new beta

Post by JamesInSanDiego »

The latest Mojave beta (10.14 Beta 18A365a) installed on my machine overnight and the gray bar on the right edge of my graphics is still there when the rulers are turned on. I sent in a Feedback to Apple on the previous beta. Should I send another one with the new beta?

Bug in the NSScrollView. I will open an Apple developer bug report, too.
