1) Open an image file into the Editor.
2) Menu > Windows > Information.
3) "Color profile" shows Name of the Profile plus in brackets information whether the color profile is embedded or a reference/flag or was assigned by user choice or automatically by preference.
Currently works for PNGs and WebP
Does not work for JPEGs. The just show the name of the profile. And not how this was determined in brackets.
→ Please make sure this function works for all common file types which use color profiles.

Re: ColorSync: All common file types should show how color profile for current file got determined in its Info window
The Exif and XMP records are checked at a central location after opening a file if it contains no ICC profile.
So, please email a sample image if it does not work.

Glad to read this is handled at a central function, which all file types go through.
GC 12.1 (6407) on macOS 11.7.10
Opened different JPEG files: Without ICC, with ICC embedded - Both showed that info in brackets.
Did not open a JPEG file with the sRGB flag only. But I trust this works too then.
Glad I could not reproduce my earlier issue.
