At the homepage of the extension User Notification Control I inquired How is compatibility & support mid to long term?
FYI: I got a response from the extension developer from which I interpret that the risk of compatibility issues and maintenance effort is reasonable low.

I enabled the notification with the latest extension. Please check.

1) Notifies myself about my own posts.
2) Notification delay quite long: Posted 20:04, got the email notification at 05:31.
- That are 9.5 hours, not really efficient to handle something during a workday of 8h.
- I assume the server pools the notifications and then sends them out in batches.
- Does the mail sending part of your web hosting environment maybe have throttling? (=How many messages/minute it can send out)
