I'm trying to reduce some image sizes via a four step batch conversion. The result is strange.
Below are screenshots of my conversion workflow, my settings for each step, and a before/after of a sample image

Please email the source image and the saved batch to support@lemkesoft.de
Normally it is not a good idea to delete a color profile and to assign a different one. So, you have no color matching.
The better approach is the conversion from one profile to another.

Re: How Did I Botch This Simple Convert/Modify?
1. Replace the assign color profile batch by: change color profile
2. Move the remove metadata option to the end of the batch and uncheck remove color profile
So, a real color matching to the new profile is done.

Thanks for the sample files.
That is a JPEG with HDR Gain Map.
You want a plain JPEG in sRGB color space. So, please go to the menu GraphicConverter 12 > Settings > Open > Formats > HDR
Check the item: import as SDR and uncheck the ask option.
