Selection Enhancements

You can extend a selection by holding down the shift key, but this doesn't extend across the different selection tools. As soon as you select a new tool, the old selection is lost. For selecting complex shapes it would be nice if you could use multiple tools. Select rectangular bits with the rectangle selection tool, and then switch to the ellipse selection tool to select round bits, switch to lasso to add a squiggly bit, and so on. It would also be nice to be able to remove parts of a selection, using a different modifier key. (For example, select the outside of a doughnut, using the ellipse selection tool, then cut out the hole by holding down the command key while making another elliptical selection.) Another useful enhancement for selections would be transparent feathering around the edges, to make blending a selection with the background easier after a copy. It would also be nice if the resizing handles that are there for rectangular selections were available for non-rectangular ones.
