batch creation date change

Hello! I have over a thousand scanned images. The date the pictures were taken is written in the IPTC caption, in a dependable position. Now I would like to set the creation date of the files to the shooting date. I know I can do it from the browser. But I would like to get it automatically./ Does anyone have an idea or hint if it is possible to write a script that reads the caption and changes the creation date of the file accordingly? My experience with AppleScript is very small, and with perl... none at all. Any help will be appreciated. Gianluca Gorni
