Camera download problem

Post by comixace »

I'm using an iMac running Panther, and have been having a very annoying problem with GC, which is, otherwise, just about the perfect program. When I download pictures from my camera -- a Canon Powershot A80 -- I always use "download some." If there are only a FEW pictures on my CF memory card, it works. But if there are more than 20 or so, GC downloads only ONE photo and then stops. Has anyone else had this problem? I tried reformatting my Compact Flash card, but it didn't help. Any ideas of how to solve it? I'm often on the road (I'm a freelance writer) and need to download pictures and this makes it very tedious.

I have a Canon PowerShot S500. I always use Canon's "Image Browser" to download. My first pictures included movies which apparently didn't work with GC. I also had it set up so it deleted everything after it was downloaded. I only use it to download or to rotate movies which GC did not do last time I tried. Hello, unter Tiger this problem is gone as it is due to a bug in the part of Mac OS Panther used. Under Panther please copy the images in the Finder. Wait.....there are recovery programs for your card. Im not sure what they are but I do know they work. If you dont find out from someone else write me again. Dont format or overwrite your card. Hagen Henke was seen on 8/12/05 9:50 AM talking about: > Hello, > > for image recovery on cards I can recommend Exif Untrasher. which you can get at: <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19622> My Lexar CF card came with recovery software loaded on it. Which works quite well (I had to use it once.) Data Rescue X can recover images from cards (as well as data from unmountable disks). -- Listserv only address. Jeff Shapiro

Convert & modify question

Post by Robert H. Rivkin »

Background of source of problem [GC 5.7; G5 2 x 2gz, 3gb ram] I am trying to save 600 jpgs taken during a trip and burned to CD by a well-intentioned PC-using friend. I think the CD was burned faster than the processer could handle the data, and many of the photos have partial images salvageable. Effort to save I am using Convert & Modify to remove metadata from JPEG and convert to PNG files, later to revert to jpgs for the PC user. In Convert & Modify, I have set the funtion to Remove Metadata from JPEG. I have highlighted the list of jpgs known to be defective. Filter all available. Dest. Format is PNG. I have set the Remove Metadata from JPEGs as follows: Remove: EXIF, ICC, Comment, Delete everything after EOI marker. Problem When GC comes to a file that is not convertible, it gives me the message: -003: Illegal prefix found in file IMG_(xxx).JPG. File will be ignored. Skip this document and continue converting? I press continue, but GC doesn't. I have to unhighlight the jpg and then press go and then okay the Remove Metadata from JPEG parameters. Is this the intended operating procedure for this function of Convert & Modify? Can I not "set it and forget it" like other batch operations? Have I missed something? Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

Robert,I will depend on others to answer your direct question, but I wish to point out that the partial images can result in the camera, as images are deleted in the camera, and the camera attempts to utilize the freed up space on the memory card for a new photo.  It can also result when the camera is saving the photo just taken, and batteries are weak.  Thus, it may not have resulted from actions on the PC.I recently utilized Exif Untrasher on a memory card of a friend to access just such mangled JPEGs.  I hope this will be of some assistance, although it does not speak to your original question.Ernie StamperOn Aug 21, 2005, at 7:46 AM, Robert H.
