modify and convert question

Hello, I am trying to use the modify and convert function to convert jpeg to tiff and at the same time use a batch proccess to adjust the brightrness and contrast in a series of photos taken one after another. I can successfully convert jpeg to tiff. I am having trouble with the brightness & contrast. I cannot get the batch dialoge to save my contrast settings. I go through the whole process of adding brightness and contrast to the left hand side, make my settings, and I do the save the batch to the action folder, then click ok. Howver, when i run the convert and modify with the batch box selected, it does not work. If i open to append the batch, it comes up all zeros, not showing the previous setting I had wanted in the first place. How do I get it to save and stay? Thanks. Loretta
