paste transparent pixels

Post by dennis.chesters »

I want to paste an irregular logo onto a large number of images. When I tried using GC, the transparent regions around the logo are filled with a grey checkerboard pattern. GC does convey the transparency metadata from .gif, .png and .psd images to the clipboard. I copied those images to the clipboard from GC and pasted them into Powerpoint and Photoshop with transparency preserved. (It depends on the receiving app to implement transparency, since pasting them into Keynote renders the transparent pixels as opaque white.) GC briefly honors the transparency when pasting into an image, while the pasted pixels are initially treated as a floating object in a selection box. But, trying to save the image converts the transparent pixels to opaque grey checkerboard. GC would be a more useful image editor if it could preserve transparency upon paste.
