Gnarlie's statement is true if the GIF image is antialiased. If it isn't, then a GIF with transparency will work as well on one background as another. The whole point of transparency is to allow any background to show through.I would say GIF is ideal for IMAGES with a limited number of colors. Antialiasing is most effective if the background color is known. The alpha channel in a PNG image, by allowing 256 levels of transparency, allows anitaliasing to be deferred until the image is rendered against a known background.Grarlie wrote: > Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you have to create a different> transparent GIF depending on the background where it will be placed?True enough.
