GC 7.6.2 (and previous version) does not show item to be scanned in

Post by aggiedad1 »

When I try to scan a document or image and click Preview, sometimes I get this error message: "Cannot scan for these reasons: -The scanner is in start processing -The scanner is being used by another application or user Scanner driver will be closed. 1.0.0" If I try again, the Preview window will show up, but when I click Preview the scanner will run and no image will appear in the Preview window. I can scan "blind" and then adjust the resulting image, but I'd like to be able to see and adjust the image before scanning, as I could before all this started. I am using GraphicConverter 7.6.2 on an iMac Core 2 Duo running OS X, v. 10.7.3. I tried an older version of GC with the same results. I deleted the plists and restarted GC, but this did not change anything.

Helllo, Thanks for your e-mail. That is an issue of the scanner driver. Is there maybe a newer driver available? I downloaded and installed what I take to be the latest drivers from Apple and from Canon. No change in preview--still no image. Any other things to try? Hello, Sorry, no. This is a big issue with a lot of scanners. The manufacturers do not support them any longer. Did you maybe try TWAIN SANE drivers? Hello, do you use FireWire or USB? USB is better supported by Apple. G'day Bill Have you checked out VueScan? It supports lots of older scanners. http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html Regards Santa On 07/03/2012, at 7:28 PM, Hagen Henke wrote: Hello, do you use FireWire or USB? USB is better supported by Apple. Thanks to all who made suggestions. Nothing worked except VueScan, which I bought despite its price ($39.95 US). I didn't suspect that my Canon MX700 multifunction printer would be obsolescent so soon. I actually paid the $80 price for the VueScan Pro version, 5 or 6 years ago IIRC. Free upgrades for life! Last night I scanned a 24-page document, generating a multi-page PDF file and an OCR .rtf file in one pass. I like it! -Gordon On Wed, Mar 14, 2012 at 9:48 AM, aggiedad1 <wwilson77@att.net> wrote: Thanks to all who made suggestions. Gordon,I remember view scan from the late 90's I think.  That they are still active is impressive.Question: If VS is installed on a Lptop and one were to need a printer away from home, what is the likelyhood that VS would suffice for the option of finding, downloading, installing a driver for the foreign printer (I usually only keep printer drivers I used recently installed).Frank H. Frank-I'm not sure what you mean. VueScan doesn't have anything directly to do with printers, unless it's a mufti-function printer with a built-in scanner. No Internet searching or downloading abilities AFAIK (I'm not at home where my Mac is). VueScan is a flexible scanner program (LOTS of settings you can tweek) that supports current scanners as well as scads of old models that are no longer supported by their manufacturers. Here's a link to the website: http://www.hamrick.com/-Gordon On Wed, Mar 14, 2012 at 1:46 PM, Frank H <netwkfh@gmail.com> wrote: Gordon,I remember view scan from the late 90's I think.  That they are still active is impressive.Question: If VS is installed on a Lptop and one were to need a printer away from home, what is the likelyhood that VS would suffice for the option of finding, downloading, installing a driver for the foreign printer (I usually only keep printer drivers I used recently installed).
