[ANN] GraphicConverter 8 (Build 800)

Post by thorstenlemke »

Hello, I released the first BETA of GraphicConverter 8. http://www.lemkesoft.org/beta.html Please download and test the new version. It has a complete rewritten backend for 64 bit support. So, there may occur some bugs. Please report them directly to lemke@lemkesoft.de or to this group. I will release the final version in 4-6 weeks. So, I am happy about each report or comment. The version 8 should have the same features as the version 7.6.2. In addition it supports 32/64 bit. So, you can open really large images of some GB. A note: the 64 bit version do not support some old formats like PhotoCD. Because the SDKs for this old format is only 32 bit. But you can launch the 64 bit version in 32 bit, too. It is a fat binary. You can change the launch mode in the Finder. Select the app in the Finder. Select file info and click on "Launch in 32 bit". Regards Thorsten Lemke

Hallo Thorsten, ich gratuliere dir zu diesem groaen Schritt. Hier ein kleiner Tippfehler von deiner Beta-Seite: version 8 does import the prefs of the version 8 and Am Ende musste es wohl 7 heiaen. Great! I will go ahead and test the sandboxed version because it appears that makes a lot of problems for some developers Fantastic to see 64 Bit Support! Thorsten,I use GraphicConverter to manage my image library.  Part of that library are scans of film negatives as TIFF files that are in the Silverfast 64 bit HDRi format, where 48 bits are in color, and 16 bits are dedicated to an infrared channel. While I don't use GraphicConverter to edit these digital negatives per se, when I open one I get the following message with GraphicConverter 8: "Note: The file was saved with 16 bit for each channel.  This was reduced to 8 bit upon import.  So, please remember this if you resave the file."Does this mean that upon resaving the file, such as after making some edits, I am losing bit data (including I suspect data in the infrared channel)?  Or did I already lose that data just by opening the file, e.g. "upon import..."?ThanksPeter Evans On Mar 22, 2012, at 11:42 AM, lemkesoft wrote:   Hello, I released the first BETA of GraphicConverter 8. http://www.lemkesoft.org/beta.html Please download and test the new version. Hi Peter, I do not support 16 bit per channel, yet. This will be the next step. This version we can test on ML ? — i'm a seed tester Cletus   On Mar 22, 2012, at 4:42 AM, lemkesoft wrote:   Hello, I released the first BETA of GraphicConverter 8. http://www.lemkesoft.org/beta.html Please download and test the new version. Hi, Yes, should run. I tried a bit, too. It has currently no developer certificate. That will follow later. Thanks.  I've found that opening and managing the files results in no data loss, only if I re-save after making some sort of edit.  So GraphicConverter suitable for filing and managing the 16 bit-per-channel files, so long as I don't edit--I do that with other software. Thanks On Mar 22, 2012, at 12:47 PM, Thorsten Lemke wrote:   Hi Peter, I do not support 16 bit per channel, yet. Thorsten,Sandboxed version. Looks good.A small bug. With Unskew activated a Shift-Delete sets points in small rectangle, a Shift-Option-Delete sets points to outer corners; But another Shift-Delete DOES NOT return to the small rectangle. On Mar 22, 2012, at 2:42 AM, lemkesoft wrote: I released the first BETA of GraphicConverter 8. The Create Icon and Preview service doesn't work correctly with GC8 .... it creates a square icon on every image no matter the dimensions of the picture .... for example if the picture is in potrait orientation it will add white bars/space on both sides of the picture on the icon. This is also the same when saving a picture from within the program and choosing to add an Icon and Preview. It would be easier to explain actually if I just showed a picture of it. So here:  On Mar 22, 2012, at 3:42 AM, lemkesoft wrote:   Hello, I released the first BETA of GraphicConverter 8. http://www.lemkesoft.org/beta.html Please download and test the new version.
