rgb to cmyk

Hi there, I joined up hoping someone in this group might be able to help with a problem I'm having. I'm trying to convert a few rob figures to cmyk. When change the mode (Picture => Mode => CMYKcolor) it seems to accept the change, but when I save, close, and reopen it has reverted back to rgb. What am I missing in this operation? Ah. Yes, okay. I just converted to tiff and it reformatted correctly.
