Live preview adjustments GC6 vs GC 8

In GC6 when I make adjustments (gamma, levels etc) with live preview on, the previews are really "live". In GC8 live previews are so slow and sluggish it's unusable. I use the latest versions of both. I've tried it on the same files. JPGs 2-4MB Am I missing some preference or is it my computer ? MacOs 10.6.8 MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.GHZ, 8GB RAM, SSD Hard drive. Marino
