Attachments :pastedGraphic-17741.tiff I can't find the info in Hagen's manual. I can't get GraphicConverter to open without the Conversion window opening and immediately hanging. How to I keep the Conversion window from opening when I launch the program? Stephen R. So I will still recommend in the Apple Store "FreeMemory Pro' a small app that costs a few bucks and releases stuck memory which these later OS's use and hog to no end - in use you may be holding practically all of the RAM for no reason - Apple still has not addressed this issue just my experiences.. Preview and GC have been sort of over used abused by me since 2005 went through all versions since 7.6.2 is nicest of them. Stable I mean. It is probably not directly related, but I find various versions of GC including the latest have tended to hang for up to a minute or more when you start to edit a large 19MB RAW file using Adjust. Even with 16GB of RAM, all cores go to 100% in the Activity Monitor with the spinning cursor visible. I have to remember to reduce the RAW file first to a JPG to avoid this delay. By the way, an easy way to free up memory from other hogging applications like Word is to open Terminal from the Utilities folder: just type purge, wait for the command line to reappear, and then quit. You can watch the freed memory reappearing in the Activity Monitor if you want to visibly check what the memory is. Regards, Mike

That is what free memory pro does every couple seconds sends a 'purge' command.. For $5 a lazy auto purge?I do large files and notice PREVIEW is unstable crashes - it is not made for any heavy duty stuff.I am better able to route [that is the word] my image tasks better by knowing how GC acts. It has a protocol that I know now - resizing image to pixel count resets the logic I guess so the arduous task of manipulating a big picture is made simple.I suspect PREVIEW is one native app. that does bypass the Unix layer because the folks at this Apple corp. can do so...I also see GC has to go in Unix - which is a slowing process - does a fair job of the burden but logic errors do show in the complex paths that I saw.Speeds things up too if you use as small a file as possible - I do suppose the tech in home computers is not good enough for raw images to fully render or yet process. Even NASA hands out only smaller stuff as:  I can up the pixels to 2000 DPI and all it does is soften the pixellation a bit sometimes the NASA.gov will hide details in the DPI where when the image is boosted back up, only then will they will be seen. One of the foxy ways of them.
