I just recorded my license key for v 9 and noticed I have keys from upgrades to 5.x, 6, 7, 8 and now 9.  Maybe Thorsten should implement a "longevity" discount! ;-) That would encourage people to upgrade with each major update! It actually is encouraging when I look at my file of license purchases over the years that this is one that is still around and I use. I am dismayed at how many I have purchased that aren't around anymore!RussOn Dec 18, 2013, at 3:21 PM, Mike Bauers <mwbauers55@wi.rr.com> wrote: I believe it's 'updates' that are free, and not 'upgrades'.ie : v6.4 to v6.5 and not v6.4 to v7.2 or v8.2I must have bought GC licenses five or more times over the years. Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Most of the software vendors I deal with offer free upgrades when you happen to purchase deprecated software. That, of course, is impossible in the Mac App Store since it does not offer paid upgrades at all. And I have purchased lifetime upgrades from other vendors, usually for utilities. They are, of course, not “free” in the sense that the continuing cost of development is factored in. But it does save you the hassle of unexpected costs, as when you buy something and very shortly thereafter it is upgraded. Even Apple does that. I am having trouble with the software for my uses, and the new version doesn’t fix it. I’d upgrade and hope it does if it’s free, otherwise I move on to a product that does work. It’s just business; I don’t begrudge anyone their fees for good work.

Download it and see if it works for you. If not then make suggestions and bug reports to Thorsten. I don't see that you've stated your problem on the list. Did I miss it? -- Best Regards, Chris

No; didn’t post here. Already being worked on, and unfortunately 9 doesn’t cure it. It’s a problem using TWAIN with a Canoscan 8800F.There’s another post here about using the non MAS version to remedy scanning issues, but that isn’t working either. There are some posts on the Apple boards about it. Hope it works out. I may try Elements since my version of Acrobat doesn’t seem to have trouble with the scanner.thanks,RobOn Dec 18, 2013, at 3:02 PM, Christopher Stone <listmeister@thestoneforge.com> wrote: Hey Robert,The GC9 upgrade works just fine unregistered.  Download it and see if it works for you.If not then make suggestions and bug reports to Thorsten.I don't see that you've stated your problem on the list.  Did I miss it?

I dug back and found my upgrade from 4.5 to 5.x from Nov 2002. Who knew! No idea how far back I go before that upgrade. I trust I never implied to any of you that Thorsten owed us unlimited updates.  I only remarked that back in the dark ages he did promise that.  And, I suggested that he set  up some consistent way to charge for upgrades...if there is a way to do that.   He certainly deserves to make a good living given the fine attention to updates and support.  If the pocket book allows I'll pay again...I do feel a bit blind sided though.  I've been on the list for years, and used GC practically since it was first offered, but as far as I can tell I never received notice of the new version and associated cost.  That said though, I certainly realize the difficulty of contacting all of us.  I just wish I'd known...Chuck Boody On Dec 18, 2013, at 2:14 PM, Thorsten Lemke wrote:   Dear Chris, many thanks for your words.I e-mailed to all customers who ordered the software on October 1, 2013 or later a new license key free of charge. Chuck,I am not being critical of your comments, but I do want to say that in my opinion, Thorsten Lemke does business the way I wish American companies would. He is responsive to comments sent to him; his upgrades have been excellent and generous; for my money, Graphic Converter is a bargain. No arguments here about what you say. I agree.Sent from my iPad On Dec 19, 2013, at 12:43 PM, Charles Stroh <charlesstroh@yahoo.com> wrote:   Chuck,I am not being critical of your comments, but I do want to say that in my opinion, Thorsten Lemke does business the way I wish American companies would. He is responsive to comments sent to him; his upgrades have been excellent and generous; for my money, Graphic Converter is a bargain. Because Apple do not give any customer data to the developers. But the Mac App Store customers can contact me directly with a proof of purchase.Thorsten On 18.12.2013, at 21:04, Christopher Stone <listmeister@thestoneforge.com> wrote:On Wed, 18 Dec 2013 09:25:51 -0800, Robert Gendreau wrote:I bought GC version 8 recently. IMHO, I think GC gives tremendous value for the price. The quick personal responses to (often stupid, in my case) questions, by itself is priceless. I put GC up there with Vuescan as one of the very best Mac shareware systems out there. And, it is a system, too, at this point, not just a single program. If you aren't using it enough to feel that the costs is justified, use Snaps Cleaner, or GIMP, or something. This is just like tipping in restaurants. Nobody who has worked in a restaurant is a cheap tipper. Nobody who has coded would begrudge Thorsten his upgrades. 'End of discussion.
