Problem: can't scan in 10.9.2 with Epson artisan 810

Since upgrading my iMac from 10.6.2 to 10.9.2, I can't scan with my Epson Artisan 810. I am opening GC 9 in 32-bit. As soon as I ask GC to scan (using Twain..., the way I always did in 10.6.2), GC crashes. Any advice?
