[off-topic] is there an audio converter like graphic converter?

Subject line says nearly everything! Nothing to do with GraphicConverter, but seeking something similarly capable in the audio domain. I'm wondering if there is an application which works on sound files the way GC works on graphic files. I do have Peak LE which is a great tool for editing and it will re-save files in a different format. But what I'm looking for is something that I can throw a folder of (say) AIFF files at and it will return a folder of (say) MP3 files. Maybe I could do this by scripting Peak LE, but I'm not sure it's possible and anyway Peak seems to take along time doing its format conversion on just one file.
