Is there a way to define keyboard short cuts?

I've tried a couple of times to define my own keyboard shortcuts for menu commands. Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't seem to see a way to do it. I'd like to define a command for "Import from digital camera" and few others. I don't want to have GC ask me to import photos every time I plug my phone in or insert an SD card. Frequently, they don't have new photos on them. Thanks
