Paint in adjustments?

Hello friends,

I'm attempting to apply adjustments in specific areas. I'm trying to imagine either:

Greyscale Painting in the area, then having full black be Blend-Normal and full white being transparent.

Or

Having the original image in background, a copy with the adjustments sandwiched on top, Transparent, but then "painting" in Opacity to cover up the background image. But I haven't quite figured that out.
