Negative stroke width for text?

Can you add the option to specify stroke width expanding outward instead of inward for text? As you can see from the image, when I add text that has fill and stroke, the stroke expands into the letter, causing it creep into the top corners of the "M". I'd like it to expand outward, so that it forms a while layer around the M instead.
