Most of my photos and videos come from my phone. They are synced to iCloud photos. That also syncs them to Photos on my Macbook Air. I rarely use the Photos app on my Air. I prefer to use Graphic Converter. I only have a 128 GB ssd on the Air. I would prefer to have almost all my old photos on an external drive and not on my phone or Air or icloud.
How can I accomplish this?
On my Air, I have a 5GB Photos Library and a 3GB IPhotos Library.
My phone has less than a GB of photos, but if I want to see something I have to have internet access and it may take a long time to download.
According to my phone I have nearly 23 GB of photos in iCloud.
I think the ideal would be off loading all photos older than two years from iCloud to my external drive and have an album that stays on ICloud and my phone always, regardless of age.
Is there a way to accomplish this reasonably?

Can you sync all photos to your MacBook into Photos?
You can than use the Export Photos Library menu item in GraphicConverter to export the photos to the external hard drive.

I don’t think so. I have taken everything off I can and only have 16GB free.

Just change the location of the Photos library to your external disk (in the prefs of Photos).
Sync now all image to the external disk.
Use the GraphicConverter feature to export the Photos library after that.

Just copy the library first from the internal to the external disk and select it in the prefs.

Thanks. I had to drag it over, then quit Photos and double click on the new location. It asked me if I wanted to change the location. It also said, if I want to sync all the photos I had to delete incomplete items (or something like that). I said ok and it did not seem to be responsive. I quit.
I double clicked on the file again.
That turned off syncing. had to turn it on again in preferences.
Taking a day to download.
All downloaded.
I don't see how to use Graphicconverter to export the pictures. I cannot view them in GC. If I browse the photo stream, there are only 450 pictures instead of 5000.
Do you mean to export using Photos?
