Conversion using multiple cores is failing

I just took the 10.6.1 (3100) update, and on first try it offered to perform conversions using multiple cores. Great idea, will save me a lot of time, but whenever I attempt to use it I get the failure "The system error -35 occured while processing file (null)." I submitted a crash report. Returning to single core processing resolves the issue, albeit more slowly.
