[Solved] Edit text in Alpha Channel

I've got a .PNG file that is RGB + Alpha. I'd like to be able to edit the text in the Alpha channel. Is this possible with GC?

Yes, just select "Show in New Window" to show and edit the alpha channel in a new window:

I had actually discovered that already, but the text in the newly opened window isn't editable with the text tool, so I deleted it with the erased, and entered new text. What is the procedure to re-intergate this back into the original file?

The text in the alpha channel is already pixel based.
So, you use the eraser to erase it.
Use the text tool to enter new text.
