MacPaint file can't be opened in MacPaint

OK I'm a little stuck. I want to load some BMP art on a real classic Apple Macintosh Plus.

I've used GraphicConverter to convert some BMPs to "MacPaint" format which results in a small .mac file. I can open it on OSX and it looks good. I attach the file.

Next I use ImportFI on Mini vMac emulator to move the .mac file to My Art.dsk and that works too. So now I have the MacPaint art file on a real classic Macintosh disk.

The problem is the system and MacPaint do not recognize the .mac file as a MacPaint file. Real MacPaint icons have a specific icon and show as "MacPaint Document" in Finder's Info pane. Whereas the converted .mac files have a blank icon and no association.

What am I missing please?

Thank you.

Hi,

the classic macOS uses the hidden HFS file attributes type/creator to assign the correct open app.

Just use a file tool to change the type to "PNTG". That should fix the issue on the old system.
