[Solved] Text color and background

Post by David Knodel »

I am at a total loss entering text onto graphics, usually .jpg file. I can never get the text color and text background to 'stick' - it seems every time I click elsewhere it changes to a previous choice - or something. I often fiddle with this for half an hour and end up taking what I get, not what I want. What's the trick I'm missing?

Hi,

do you use the current 11.2.1? Which macOS do you use?

Hello Thorsten,

I am using the latest beta, 11.2.2 (4442) but this has been a problem for a while in recent versions.
I am on Catalina OSX 10.15.15.

I am having the same problems and have the latest Beta using the latest version of Catalina.
If you add some text and then go to add another piece of text, the colours go back to default and you have to set them again for this next text; but meanwhile the colour of the previous text is also reset and lost.
The only way round this that I have found at present is to flatten the text each time and start again for the next text.
This of course means that you have to get each text into its correct final position and you cannot reposition each one in relation to the other.

I hope you can find out what is happening. You've never failed in 17 years!!

I will check it after the Universal version is up running.

Did you try to hide the normal toolbox?

Hello Thorsten,

Yes, closing the regular tool box and working only with the text boxes and Apple color chooser(s) works around the problem.

My problem is similar - since it involves text colour and background I'll add it here.... The image shows what the problem is - I don't seem to be able to get text on a colour background without it carrying its own background. Is there an option for a transparent background. I've selected the 'erase background' and that seemed to work for a bit (I think) but now it is doing this.....

The current workaround is to hide the toolbox. I am working on a solution.

Also, please uncheck fill/erase background in the text palette.

I am trying to adopt the workaround and have unchecked 'erase background', but I don't see how it is possible to uncheck 'fill' ...
'fill' appears in a dropdown menu with three mutually exclusive options (fill/stroke/fill+stroke) none of which allows fill to be unchecked without selecting stroke ??
