I'm trying to achieve something I used to do a lot in photoshop.... Take an image, make a duplicate layer. Apply a filter to the bottom layer, then erase parts from the top layer to allow the filtered bottom layer to show through. I don't seem to be able to do it - by changing the blend modes here and there I can get something, but not close, as colours are distorted badly.
I'm sure I'm missing something fairly straightforward here, can anyone guide me please?
thanks, Lee

Re: Layers - erasing from top layer
That works in GraphicConverter, too.
You need only the normal blend mode.
Just create a new layer and copy the complete image.
Select the background layer and i.e. blur.
Select the top layer and erase with the eraser.
