My proposal is to offer such a preference for the Editor too.

In the editor that preference is even more important, because you do not see the underlying files/folders, and to not really notice when you reach a boundary.

Worked in GC 11.7.1 (5719) on macOS 11.7.2.

@forum_adm: Ideally please change to:

[√] Stop at first and last image
     with: [ ] flash   [ ] dialog   [√] beep

That way you can decide:
- whether you want it at all
- and what kind of feedback you want. (the dialog can feel quite disruptive in some situations, a more subtle feedback would be better then)

Would you please add an option to not show any dialog/beep/etc, just stop at first/last? For me the fact that the image is not changing is usually enough of an indicator (actually, there is one more — the Edit menu flashes, not sure if that can be disabled).

At most I'd like to have a visible 1/10 indicator for the 1st of 10 files in the status bar/titlebar, but that's a different feature related to the titlebar/statusbar customization

Will add a not show option to build 5723. I can't avoid the flashing.

Tested b5723:
• In a folder with picture files only (png) the "stop and beep" setting worked fine.
• When you happen to have MP4s in that folder:
  • If the MP4 is in the middle of the file order, then still it works fine.
  • But if the MP4 is at the start or end, then instead of "stop and beep" it uses the "stop and show dialog" method.
  • I guess this is because the MP4 is displayed not in the normal Editor window but another window type (and that may has its own navigation stack/methods)
  • Not something that must necessarily be fixed. I just encountered this situation by chance. And as a careful tester wanted to at least report it.
