Improve number entry: allow arrow keys to change the number

You commonly need to make many tiny (by ±1) adjustments to a given numeric input field.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to press arrow up▲/down▼ keys to do it (currently they move to the beginning/end of a two-digit number, which is a useless move) instead of either having to click on those tiny ⌃⌄ buttons with a mouse or manually increment/decrement by typing a number.

Unfortunately, the default numeric UI input field you use is of some different type (a generic text input field or something?), so it doesn't allow for this most convenient data entry.

Would you please change the field to something that would allow for a much more convenient de/increment?

I use the standard Apple text input fields.
