Batch renaming files from metadata?

Hi —

I've just discovered my Apple Photos library is corrupt (can't export any photos older than September) and so used a Graphic Converter script to export the whole lot. It looks like GC preserved the metadata and even gives accurate creation/modification dates in the Finder. But the filenames are completely hopeless. (Thanks, Thorsten!)

Is there a way to batch rename them using e.g. date and maybe city location?

Thanks.

Victor

Thanks for your feedback.

I store the files with the filenames used by Photos.

You want to use the city. So, check if the metadata of the files contain the city. Just select one file in the browser and press command and I
You will get the IPTC/XMP dialog. Check the following tab:

You can use the following command if the city is missing:

Now use the GraphicConverter Simple Rename feature in the browser:

1. Clear the filename:

2. Add the Exif date to the filename:

3. Add the city from IPTC/XMP to the filename:

And finally click onto Rename.

Many thanks for this — useful to see how it's done.

This is only manual, though, right? No way to batch process it?

Many thanks.

You can select a complete folder and process it. So, it works as batch (but without any change of the file content).

Also, you can save this rename settings and simple execute the saved setting directly from the rename submenu.

Super — thanks. And it looks like I can select all the files in a folder and do Reverse Geotagging on them all first too!

Hmm. Is there a simple way to sort those images that have some GPS information from those that have none? Or those that lack a shooting date/time?

(If there is no GPS information or shooting date and time, the Simple Rename routine above returns a null string.)

Many thanks.

Just use the filter for showing all tagged or untagged files:

Display the Exif date below the thumbnails. So, you see directly which items have no Exif date (just sort by Exif date in addition).
