[Solved] Lossless rotation with hotkey

Post by magir »

I'm quite sure, that in GraphicConverter 11 cmd-r/l in the browser rotated lossless (metadata only). In 12 these seems not to be the case anymore. There a separate rotate options in the context menu for lossless or not and there's a setting for the browser when to do that but this does not seem to be related to the keyboard shortcut. Maybe only when the rotate shortcut for arrow keys is enabled?

The rotation commands in the browser are exactly the same as in GC11.

They rotate JPEGs lossless if possible.

HEICs and other lossy formats require a recompression as usual.

The rotation in metadata is a new command.
It just changes the Exif orientation tag. The pixel data is not modified.

Ah, I should've known that metadata rotate is different from JPEG lossless rotate! I had a few iPhone 16 Pro photos which I rotated from the browser using cmd-r and it took quite a while and the file size doubled. Hence I thought that the image was rotated and recompressed. This indeed is the case but the reason is, that this iPhone produces images with 5712x4284 which are not in the 8x8 grid so lossless doesn't work. Haven't noticed that before...

Even though I'm always shocked by the amount of options already present in GraphicConverter, maybe add a fourth option to
